A southwestern suburb of Howick with a relaxed, semi-urban feel. Named after Herman Merivale, Secretary of State for the Colonies in 1848, this area once had its own train station and accompanying old-style character railway houses and was an important stop-over for settlers travelling to Pietermaritzburg from the central Midlands.
